The East Rhyl Coastal Defence Scheme was delivered to strengthen and enhance the existing sea defences along the North Wales coastline, providing long-term protection for local communities, infrastructure and property from coastal flooding and erosion.
Working alongside Balfour Beatty and D. Morgan plc, W&B Civil Engineering undertook key elements of the early construction phase of the revetment structure forming part of the new coastal defence system.
Our scope of works included the installation of blinding, construction of the reinforced concrete toe beam and the installation of the first row of the revetment wall. These works formed the critical foundation of the coastal protection structure designed to dissipate wave energy and stabilise the shoreline.
Operating within a tidal working environment presented a number of logistical and engineering challenges. Works had to be carefully programmed around tidal windows to allow safe access to the working area, while excavation and preparation works included the removal of existing rock and material to form the required foundation levels for the new defence structure.
Through careful planning, experienced site teams and the use of specialist plant, W&B successfully delivered these works within the tight tidal constraints, contributing to the successful progression of this important coastal protection scheme.
