A57 Mottram Bypass

Date:2025 - 2028
Value:£1.5 Million Labour & Plant
Location:Glossop
Client:D Morgan / Balfour Beatty

The Mottram Moor Link Road, commonly referred to as the A57 Mottram Bypass, is a major highway infrastructure project designed to relieve longstanding congestion through Mottram-in-Longdendale and improve connectivity between Greater Manchester and South Yorkshire.

Working alongside Balfour Beatty and D. Morgan plc, W&B Civil Engineering delivered critical drainage infrastructure as part of the early stages of the project.

Our scope included the installation of pre-earthworks drainage consisting of 14 piped culverts and associated reinforced concrete headwalls, designed to manage surface water across the scheme and prepare the corridor ahead of the main earthworks and carriageway construction.

Operating within a complex infrastructure environment, the works required careful programming, coordination with multiple site activities and the use of specialist plant and experienced drainage teams. The successful delivery of these installations formed an essential part of the enabling works for the wider highway scheme.

Through practical site management, experienced operatives and a strong understanding of large infrastructure programmes, W&B successfully delivered this critical drainage package supporting the progression of the Mottram Moor Link Road development.

A59 Kex Gill Re-alignment

Date:2024 - 2026
Value:£3 Million Plant & Labour
Location:Blubberhouses
Client:John Sisk & Sons

The Kex Gill Realignment is a major highway infrastructure scheme designed to replace the existing section of the A59 road which has historically been prone to landslips. The project involves the construction of a new stretch of highway across more stable ground, improving long-term resilience and ensuring a reliable route between Harrogate and Skipton.

Working alongside John Sisk & Son, W&B Civil Engineering delivered a significant drainage package across sections of the scheme. The works involved the installation of large-scale highway drainage infrastructure designed to manage surface water and protect the new carriageway from future ground movement and erosion.

Our scope included deep drainage excavations, installation of large diameter pipework, construction of chambers and outfalls, and associated drainage works required ahead of the main earthworks and carriageway construction. Operating within challenging ground conditions and a sensitive upland environment required careful planning, coordination and strict adherence to environmental controls.

Through experienced site teams, specialist plant and effective programme management, W&B successfully delivered complex drainage works that form a key part of the long-term resilience of this critical transport route.
